Red Light Special
CrazySexyCool by TLC was my first CD, together with a small CD player. After doing research for this blog post, I discovered I’m not the only one. I was about thirteen when I received this CD, and this song, ‘Red Light Special’, was my favourite all along. The song was so incredibly sexy!
So Sexy
Now, you must understand that I wasn’t sexually active or anything. My first boyfriend was still many years away. Yet the sexy spirit of this song attracted me immensely. Of course, I knew every word. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve danced along to this song while seducing my imaginary lover as I performed it in my room.
Bold and Sexy
Still today it brings back those fond memories and judging by the video accompanying the song, I was right in my interpretation. I love that now, all those years later, the song still holds up and would even be appreciated by modern feminists for its boldness. Yes, my thirteen-year-old self chose wisely 😉
“Red Light Special”
Take a good look at it
Look at it now
Might be the last time you’ll
Have a go round
I’ll let you touch it if you’d
Like to go down
I’ll let you go further
If you take the southern route
Don’t go too fast
Don’t go too slow
You’ve got to let your body flow
I like ’em attentive
And I like ’em in control
[Chorus]
Baby it’s yours
All yours
If you want it tonight
I’ll give you the red light special
All through the night
Baby it’s yours
All yours
If you want it tonight
Just come through my door
Take off my clothes
And turn on the red light
I know that you want me I can
See it in your eyes
You might as well be honest ’cause the
Body never lies
Tell me your secrets and I’ll
I’ll tell you mine
I’m fellin’ quite sexy
And I want you for tonight
If I move too fast just let me know
‘Cause it means you move too slow
I like some excitement
And I like a man that goes
[Chorus]
If you want me
Let me know it
I’ll make time but
You’ve got to show it
If you need me
I want to see
But don’t mistake me
I don’t want you down on your knees
I need someone a real man
I need someone who understands
I’m a woman a real woman
I know just what I want
I know just who I am
[Chorus]
Written and produced by Babyface, LaFace and Arista Records released the song as the second single from CrazySexyCool on February 21, 1995.

OMG, this is my favorite song off their sophmore album. It’s so sexy yet cool and crazy! I love Babyface’s cool instrumentation and T-Boz’s deep yet cool vocals.
I love Babyface’s music too, he’s a great singer and producer 🙂
This song gives instructions for a night of lovemaking, telling what the girl’s going to do to the guy. Very sexy, nice choice.
Thank you 🙂
Oh my, that video is very nice and that song will definitely go on my lustful playlist.
And yes, exactly what an attentive young man should understand. Good instructions.
I’m glad you liked it 😊
